To celebrate Hoi Larntan’s exceptional service to the North Norfolk community, and Blakeney in particular, she was blessed on the slipway yesterday – a couple of months short of her first birthday.
The sun continued to shine through the late afternoon and the water in the Cut was mirror-like. Just over 60 friends, rowers and helpers came to enjoy the evening and acknowledge the contribution Hoi Larntan has made and the fun we have all had.
Antonia had inveigled the Rev. Ian Whittle to venture down to the beach and (metaphorically) dabble his toes in the water. After being introduced by our President, Victoria Holliday, he ably led us through the Blessing and all present enthusiastically intoned responses to the Psalm. With final good wishes for all who row in her, we gave a rousing three cheers! All then walked back up to the Blakeney Sailing clubhouse for drinks and excellent nibbles produced by Antonia and Andrea – to whom many thanks again.
Adrian has looked at the records of our outings in Hoi Larntan up to the end of last year and there were:
Outings on 62 days
At least 59 different folk rowed or coxed
Giving 320 individual outings – not bad for our first 8 months. As you can see below we continue to look forward. What might this new year bring?
We are delighted to hear that Bob and his team at Kings Lynn now have funds and facilities to start building their boat(/s?). Wells- next-the-Sea have started on their two kits (borrowing our stem moulding jig) and a possible third boat from a different source in Wells could all add up to a great future for St Ayles skiffs in North Norfolk.
Victoria ensures we continue to look forward…
Rev Ian Whittle leads the Blessing…
Finally – three cheers…
Watch out for our second boat, Bluejacket, – due for launching on Saturday 26 April on the quay at Blakeney – 15:30 with drinks etc. afterwards in clubhouse – don’t miss it!
