As part of the RYA’s national Push-the-Boat-Out weekend CRABlakeney joined the sailors of Blakeney Sailing Club, and other clubs all over the country, in offering the chance for anyone who came along, to have a go in a boat.
With beautiful weather and lots of North Norfolk sunshine, both our boats were kept busy treating numbers of people to the fun of coastal rowing in St Ayles skiffs. The smiles said it all. Thanks to all who took time to instruct and act as more experienced rowers.
Earlier in the week a group of students from local independent school Gresham’s, in nearby Holt, had a morning trying their hands at skiff rowing.
They were very good and enthusiastic. Navy cadets from the CCF. Bit of a change from our normal age range. The promise of a flourishing future?
We had two boats out. Victoria coxed one and Alan the other. He took his crew on an excursion way up Cley creek – quite an experience!
They ended with a race of about 100m, in the Pit, which was well contested and resulted in a dead heat. All celebrated by going to Wells for fish and chips.
Our new trailer/trolley combination freshly back from the galvanisers’ tank. Very many thanks to Ian (the trailer) for building it for us. Now we can shift both boats.
Lots of happy road-miles to come.
The best caption we have had so far for the Hmmmm…. photo below, is from Mark Fleming:
“Ian looks a trifle worried as final checks for his round the world row are carried out.”
Thanks Mark. Your prize in the post!
