Skiffs around the coast of Britain…

In a further despatch from the foredeck of yacht Discovery, we understand our former President has sailed on from Stornaway in Shetland. Working down the West coast and into the Irish Sea, visiting Ulster and the Inner Hebrides, she has managed to locate two more St Ayles skiffs:

One in a garage in Carrickfergus, County Antrim in Northern Ireland…

The other in in the peaty, malt whisky haven of Islay…

Sailing a 70ft ketch round the top of Britain doesn’t leave much time for coastal rowing but a good Skiffie will always sniff out a St Ayles wherever it may lurk!

Try this to follow her progress:

There are lifeboats and lifeboats…

Meanwhile…in Stornaway, a bigger lifeboat – and alongside, a former CRAB President has parked her ‘other little boat’. Well, just borrowed for the week really, as she sails the very Northern tip of Scotland to the Shetland Isles and on to Northern Ireland. Fair winds and bon voyage!2017-08-26-PHOTO-00000060.jpg

Earlier, our intrepid crew battled the reeds along the Cley Channel to reach the Cley Harbour Festival bright and early one mid-summer morning!IMG_6614.JPG

The end in sight…

Thanks to Rosemary for these.

Lifeboats and skiffs…

Former Wells RNLI lifeboat Lucy Lavers, remembered for her part as a hero of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation Operation Dynamo, joined the Sheringham inshore lifeboat in a ceremony at Blakeney Quay at the weekend.

The CRAB crew took part in the supporting flotilla with Hoi Larntan…P1040778.jpeg

Here is Lucy Lavers, beautifully restored for her 75th anniversary return to Dunkirk a couple of years ago, with a full crew in Blakeney Pit. She is based at Wells and regularly takes parties out for trips to the Fairway Buoy etc. ┬áSee the Rescue Wooden Boats website for details…P1040781.jpeg
