Ready for the new season …

“Bluejacket” and the new oars ready to go. Rob D writes:

“Just ready for the new season, a new set of oars made from solid pine, as per last year’s prototype. These are a matching set, 4.2 metre for bow/2/3 and 4.05 for stroke. They are handed for use with stroke on port, and are numbered on the handle end. In line with feedback, the handles are slightly smaller in diameter.

The oars took about 8 hours each to make with roughly 60% wastage from the raw plank vs. 30 for hollow ones. If successful, the hollow ones will eventually be replaced by ones like these. More people will have the opportunity to make them next time.”
