Anta, Victoria, Duncan, Mark, Humphrey and Adrian M admirably represented the club at the annual Great River Race on Saturday 14th September. The photographs show a clear, sunny day on the Thames for this demanding event. Anta reports that the tow to the starting point went well and that the moving of boats down the slipway was better organized than usual with trollies being used effectively. Hoi Larntan was tied up to the “mini Gloriana” before the start.
As for the race, Anta informs me that the going was rough down to Tower Bridge but that changing rowing positions went extremely well. The coxes held their nerve despite some competitive oar clashing in very hot conditions. There were no MPs cheering from Parliament as the House seems to be going through a quiet phase.
After a journey back to Norfolk following the race, Anta and Humphrey were faced with a surprisingly high tide on the Carnser on Sunday morning. Hoi Larntan was floated across the car park to her resting position. Thanks to the ladies’ crew, just back from their Blakeney outing, for helping with this.
Many thanks to Humphrey for towing Hoi Larntan, Victoria for organising training and Anta for completing all the race administration. Thanks also to Rob and Adrian for supplying the towing kit.
The photographs below give a flavour of the event. The first posting of the race times indicates that the crew completed the course in a commendable time of 3 hours and 4 minutes. We’ll done to every crew member! More to follow …
